Junior Journals - 'Journal Hunts' for numbers 40-49. New Zealand classroom resource. Worksheets: 10 Journal Hunts (+ answer sheets) These 'Journal Hunts' are similar to a 'scavenger hunt'. In each journal, students are asked 32 questions and the answers are found in either the text or the pictures. There is one question per page. This is a great activity to reinforce the skill of skimming and scanning. Answer sheets are provided - very easy to mark! A reference sheet is provided. This outlines the meaning and gives examples for words such as synonyms, syllables, adjectives, etc. Two certificate templates are provided to celebrate success and participation in this activity. A simple poetry writing activity to use when learning about and celebrating the Māori New Year. The topic of this poetry is Manu Tukutuku (kites). The framework of the poem is very simple and is particularly suitable for junior students. The Publishing Template: Your students write their poem in the square that has the lines and they colour the picture of the kite in the adjacent square. The template is then cut out and displayed like a quilt. Celebrate the Māori New Year with this fun poetry writing activity. Lift the flap to see the poem underneath the decorative star. 1. Write (draft) the poem on the student template. This is located on the same sheet as the star (to reduce photocopying!). 2. Colour the star. 3. Publish the poem on the big circle template. 4. Cut both circles out. 5. Staple the circles together at the top. These look wonderful displayed on the classroom wall. There are 5 different star templates, allowing plenty of choice and variety. The Cinquain Poem looks at nouns, verbs, adjectives and synonyms so it is the perfect writing activity to compliment your word work programme. There are two different frameworks included in this resource (see below). This is a fun activity for your students that you can use after reading the story: How the Kiwi Lost its Wings. This activity is suitable for any retelling of the story. Colour the kiwi, write/draw in the body templates and staple them together. Lift the flap to view.
